Even in the impoverished Soviet Union, there was a class of priviledged "golden youth", who did just that: smoked, drank, did drugs and have sex, all of it in excess. It's no wonder that, as the number of priviledged Russians increased significantly, so did the supply of illicit activities. It is also no surprise that a wealthy young Western lawyer might find herself lost in this decadence. None of this is a knock against the city of Moscow, it's just a sad truth of what is going on behind the scenes. I've known a girl who worked as a radio broadcaster covering the "elite", TV, movie and music stars, and her stories resemble those of Deidre Dare to a tee. The fact that she now appears to have decided that such requirements don't matter are not only a matter for her employers but for the process which has produced someone so obviously uninterested in her responsibilities to both her profession, her employer and her clients. When she became a lawyer she signed a code of code of ethical conduct so being fired for such behaviour was a foregone conclusion.
