It’s Official! (and some stats)
Hey folks,
It’s official! I am a student at the University of Western Ontario! I liked for the most part what I saw at their Welcome Day on Saturday and I sent in my firm (i.e. not provisional) acceptance this morning. One saga is complete as I am now a law student.
As such, this will likely be the last ‘choosing a law school’ entry unless I find some interesting stats on schools that I feel are worth posting. Incidentally, here are some stats worth posting: these are the (non)hiring rates for all Ontario law schools and some interesting demographic data. Keep in mind though, different schools have different numbers of students, so I wish LSUC would report the numbers as a percentage. To see how many students there are in each law school, go here.

Sorry that I haven’t posted anything for a while, I’ve been super-busy. I have five papers to write and five exams to study for. The papers are due in the span of two weeks and exams begin in about a month. This is not very condusive to active blogging.
Because I’m tired of all these papers and exams, I’ve established a countdown to my freedom from UofT. You can see it on the right-hand side.
There are law school related updates as well. I haven’t had a chance to go to Ottawa, and given the amount of work, it looks like it’s not going to happen. My heartfelt apologies to the university, I really did try to get out and see the campus. Unfortunately I would need at least two days to do this (I don’t have it in me to spend 10 hours on the road in one day), and two days is a luxury I do not have.
Tomorrow is the welcome day at Western, and I will be there for that. London is much closer to me than Ottawa and I will allow myself a day to go over there and meet with some students and faculty.
I did not get more acceptances and I have to respond to Western and Ottawa by April 1st. Assuming there are no horrors at welcome day tomorrow, I will be attending Western next fall.

I’ve been making some changes to this blog to make it easier to use. There will be some more changes to it in the next few months as I attempt to grow this site. Ideally, I would like to have more people posting than just me.
I’ve been looking at my traffic logs and it looks like this blog is getting a sizable number of hits. This is good considering that I’m doing next to nothing to promote it (for now). If you’re in law school or going into law school and happen to stumble upon this blog and want to contribute, please register and let me know.

I ran a seminar this afternoon where I shared my experience of applying to law school with about 40 UofT Scarborough law school hopefuls. I’m glad that there was a good turnout at the event and that people ranged from first to fourth years. A speacial thanks to Andrew who came from the University of New Brunswick Faculty of Law to speak at the event and Kevin for helping with the organization of the event.
I’ll try to post the powerpoint slides that were used in the presentation. I just have to make sure that Kevin and Andrew are cool with it.
UPDATE: The slides have been posted here.
